About the Olympus Trip 35:
Released in 1968 by Olympus in Japan, the Trip 35 was designed as a travel-friendly 35mm film camera. It was built to take clear photos with a single press of the button, gaining popularity for 20 years until production ended in 1984. Unlike Olympus’s half-frame PEN series, this camera shoots full 35mm frames, providing a broader image in each shot.
Compact and lightweight at just 410g, it’s easy to carry anywhere. The excellent D.Zuiko 40mm f/2.8 lens offers a wide field of view suitable for various scenes, and it requires no batteries. Simply wind the film, set the aperture to A (auto), focus, and release the shutter to capture the moment. Despite its simplicity, it rivals the image quality of SLR cameras.
The camera uses a rangefinder focusing system, allowing you to estimate the distance to the subject by sight. With four zone focus levels (1m, 1.5m, 3m, infinity), it’s intuitive and easy to operate, even for beginners.
Lens:
The Trip 35 is equipped with a high-quality D.Zuiko 40mm f/2.8 lens, offering a slightly wider view than standard lenses and ideal for capturing a broader scene.
Shutter Speed:
In auto mode, the shutter speed is automatically set to 1/30 or 1/250 seconds, depending on the lighting. In manual mode (f-stop), the speed is fixed at 1/30 seconds.
Focusing and Exposure:
Focus is set by selecting one of the four zone settings. The exposure system is powered by solar cells around the lens, which prevent underexposure by locking the shutter in low light.
The Olympus Trip 35 is a user-friendly film camera, ideal for anyone from beginners seeking analog nostalgia to seasoned photographers.
